    In-House Obstetric Ultrasounds

We offer in-house obstetric ultrasounds, which are formally read by our board-certified physicians. The types of obstetric ultrasounds we provide include:

    • Initial obstetric ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and dating
    • Ultrasound for nuchal translucency and early anatomy evaluation, if necessary, done at the end of the first trimester
    • Anatomy scan done between 19 and 20 weeks to evaluate fetal anatomy, growth, placenta, amniotic fluid, and cervical length
    • 4D ultrasound done between 25 and 28 weeks, an optional additional ultrasound to view detailed facial images
    • Growth ultrasounds, usually done in the third trimester, if necessary to evaluate growth
    • Biophysical profiles, if necessary, to evaluate fetal well-being including fetal movement, tone, breathing, and amniotic fluid volume

If needed, we also work with the Fetal Imaging Center at Corewell Health to obtain additional ultrasounds including detailed anatomy ultrasounds and echocardiograms.

    Prenatal Genetic Testing

Most babies are born healthy. However, prenatal tests are available to assess the risk of certain genetic conditions. These assessments include blood tests and the direct testing of fetal cells. You can choose to decline some or all of these tests.

    Learn About Genetic Testing

    Carrier Screening

We offer carrier screening to help couples understand their risk of having a child with certain inherited genetic conditions. Common examples include cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs disease, or sickle cell anemia. This testing is available in pregnancy or prior to becoming pregnant.

    Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing

We offer aneuploidy screening with non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). This test is available any time after 10 weeks gestation via a single maternal blood draw. This test screens for Down Syndrome, trisomy 13, trisomy 18, and sex chromosome differences such as Turner syndrome or Kleinfelter syndrome. This risk of a genetic disorder is determined by analyzing small fragments of pregnancy cells that circulate in maternal blood. NIPT is optional.

    Diagnostic Prenatal Genetic Testing

Diagnostic prenatal genetic testing provides the most accurate way to check for certain genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities during pregnancy. Unlike screening tests, which only estimate risk, diagnostic tests can confirm whether a condition is present. These tests are typically offered when a screening result is abnormal, if there is a family history of genetic conditions, or if parents choose to have definitive answers. These tests are highly accurate but are considered invasive and have a very small risk of complications.

    The two main types include:

    • Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS), where a small sample of placental tissue is collected for testing. This is usually performed between 10-13 weeks of pregnancy.
    • Amniocentesis, where a small amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby is collected for testing. This is usually performed between 15-20 weeks of pregnancy.

If you are interested in this testing we will help refer you to the Maternal Fetal Medicine providers who perform these tests.

    Non-Stress Tests

We offer comfortable, in-house non-stress tests (NST), which are sometimes necessary to monitor fetal well-being.

This test typically lasts 20-30 minutes. It involves laying in a recliner chair while monitors measure your baby’s heart rate, contractions, and fetal movement. You are always seen by a provider after the test is complete, in order to discuss results and answer any questions you may have.
